72 Hour Booking and Ohio Public Records

Under ORC § 149.43, you have the right to request 72 hour booking records from the Allen County Sheriff's Office. You do not need to give your name or say why you want them. The office must respond promptly. If they deny the request, they have to cite the legal reason. The Sunshine Laws Manual from the Attorney General's office explains all of this in plain terms.

Some records are exempt from disclosure. Medical files, confidential investigatory records, and probation documents can be held back. But the booking record itself is public. It shows the name, charge, date, and physical description of the person brought in. If an office redacts part of a record, they still have to give you the rest of it.
